It is currently rainy and 26 MPH winds as I write this. And I am so glad that I buried my drainage. Those splashblocks from my last post would be scattered all over and they definitely would not be moving water away from my help.

Birds!

Also, following up on last weeks post. After having my neighbor clear my land so he could plant hay/alfalfa for his own purposes. We got a lot of birds!

It made me think of the scripture:

Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither

do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly

Father feedeth them…

Not this time, this time it was me and my neighbor 😊 Although I guess God did allow those weeds grow out there

Burying the pipe

We had some family come visit for Thanksgiving. They brought their shovels (well used mine) and helped me ‘do the deed’ of burying the drainage before rain came that afternoon.

Muddy Floors

I had hoped that I would have been able to be writing about doing something like this to the pantry (click the image if you want to see how they did it):

Farmhouse Pantry Shelves

But instead, I had to deal with the this mud (from the first image). Having no grass, or concrete, and 11 people + a dog did not do my nice floors any good. We sweep and mop daily. Still, it’s hard to keep up.

The county had been after me to put more rock down on my driveway. So I thought perhaps if I did that it would take care of the mud. I bought 6 cubic yards of road base

and with some help

Spread it over my driveway. My neighbor brought his tractor over and took care of the gravel in 10 minutes that would have taken us at least an hour with shovels and a wheelbarrow. Thanks neighbor!!

But to my dismay, it was maybe a third the amount of rock/dirt I would need if I wanted to fight the mud. And it is not going to stop raining for days. So I changed tactics. Instead I bought about 90 pavers

And I’m hopeful that this will take care of it.

Thanksgiving!

I haven’t mentioned it yet. But my house accommodated all the family that could come for our dinner. I only got a picture of the after dinner fun. But here is what people were doing/eating:

Hopefully next week is a cleaner more fun diy project!
