We worked packed and cleaned preparing for the inevitable move. We weren’t sure when, but we were sure it would happen…
PG&E drama
On Tuesday, my Landlord called me and asked how soon I could move out… They had found a tenant and would like for them to be able to move in Monday the 23rd… I had my meter releases in to PGE on Tuesday (Sept 17) morning. I didn’t hear back till Wednesday morning. The PGE guy on the project told me it could be 2 weeks until it’s installed….
That wouldn’t really work for us. I kept emailing him and calling him trying to get him to do anything for me. It seemed hopeless…
A new hope
After meeting with our family therapist on noon on Wednesday I realized I was tired of PG&E having power over my, and my family’s life. I couldn’t keep my landlord waiting, or my family. I decided we’d get a pod, and either camp, or live without final inspections in the home via a generator.
It is amazing how stressed you feel when you don’t have control. Once we’d made these decisions, I was much less stressed. I booked a generator, and a pod to come ASAP.
Broken Washer
We attempted to run all the laundry for the kids Weds night, and when I went to check on it at 11PM, it was a dirty clothes soup in the washer. Apparently the motor thought the clothes were too dirty to wash and would rather burn up than clean them. Luckily, I had a spare washer and dryer in this garage from our previous rental.
I drained the old washer
And used our back up ones till today. Today I sold the working washer and dryer to someone, because my landlord wants me to leave the broken one for the new tenant 😊 Such a nice landlord. I didn’t have the heart to hook the hoses back up, because you only find the broken motor after the washbin is full of water.
PGE helps…?
Thursday afternoon I got an email from PG&E that they would be able to install the meter sockets on Thursday sept 26th!!! I couldn’t believe it. I had my wife read the email, she was also speechless. We will only be homeless from Monday to Friday (I hope).
Monday I will be getting a 20kw generator to power the home and well to get through 2 of the 3 final inspections. The true final cannot come until after PGE. Here is a picture of what I will be renting on Monday.
Pod packing
We ordered from 1-800-pack-rat instead of pods, because they could get it here sooner. Both were priced the same, even with their “discounts”. But packrat could get it here in 1 day, while PODS would take at least 3.
It was delivered on Friday
And we packed it that same night.
Now we’re living in a mostly empty house waiting for Monday to come. We were lucky enough to have kind friends who will put up our entire family for those 5 days. Also someone volunteered to watch Marshall. We are all taken care of 😀
Wife’s birthday
We celebrated Hannah’s birthday today. It was a day later. A friend took some good pictures:
Hannah had a fruit tart and got the game Throw Throw burrito. It was a fun time for all.
It was nice to take a break from the daily routine of stress.
Compared to where we were earlier in the week, or even during these last two years. The end is in sight, and we’re well taken care of. Perhaps God really is looking out for us 😊
I’ve been intrigued by that Throw Throw Burrito game—is it as fun as it looks? Hopefully you all will be having more time for fun in the coming weeks. And less stress. So glad you are being taken care of for this week. Thanks for the updates! ❤️
